A History of Our Gravel and Excavation Firm

Len Honcoop founded Honcoop Gravel & Excavating Inc as a gravel company in 1975, equipped with just a wheel loader and a Mack dump truck. A dairy farmer, he was looking for another way to support his growing family. He saw an untapped market in the earthmoving and drainage work business that would help his fellow farmers succeed. 


Len spent decades working on agricultural projects throughout Whatcom County, WA. Today, our staff has grown to about 30 heavy equipment operators, laborers, and truck drivers.


The day-to-day management has been taken over by his daughter, Jodi Tjoelker, and her husband, Darren. Jodi’s husband Darren Tjoelker started Honcoop Trucking, LLC in 2002, focusing on long-haul transportation throughout the central and western States and British Columbia.

Personnel and Management

Tyler Bosman

Lead Estimator and Project Manager

Tyler joined the company in 2003 and became the lead estimator and project manager in 2006. He has almost 20 years of construction industry experience. In his management role, Tyler is responsible for bidding and administering our construction projects. His extensive work history includes experience as an operator out in the field to provide customers with accurate project layouts.
